An Atlas cedar forest in snow near Ifrane

Tours of the country around Fes.

Fes region tours take you into the country around the city, private or small-group. Head west for the holy town of Moulay Idriss and the Roman ruins of Volubilis, south for cave houses and cherry orchards, into the Middle Atlas for cedar forests, lakes and macaques, or east to the wild park of Tazekka.

Multi-day region loops

Fes sits at the centre of one of Morocco's most varied regions. Within two hours you can reach the imperial city of Meknes, the Roman ruins of Volubilis, the holy town of Moulay Idriss, the Middle Atlas plateau with its cedars and lakes, and the forests and caves of Tazekka.

The regional overview

Our classic day trips each have their own page: Volubilis and Meknes, Sefrou, and Chefchaouen. The tours here go a layer deeper, by theme, and as multi-day loops that join the region up with nights away from the city.

Private. Your party alone, your vehicle, your start time and your stops. Ideal for families, photographers and fixed plans.

Small-group. Share the day with a few other travellers on the same route and date, when there is a match.

Seasons matter. Spring and autumn are best. Summer is a cool escape in the mountains; winter brings snow to Ifrane and slower roads.

Real distances. Everything is within about 30 to 120 km of Fes. We give drive times as honest ranges, not best-case figures.

Before you ask

The questions people ask us most before they plan a trip.

What is there to see in the Fes-Meknes region?
Imperial Meknes, Roman Volubilis and the holy town of Moulay Idriss to the west; Sefrou and the cave houses of Bhalil to the south; Ifrane, the Azrou cedar forest with its Barbary macaques and the Middle Atlas lakes on the plateau; and Taza and Tazekka National Park to the east.
How is a region tour different from a day trip?
Our single-route day trips (Volubilis and Meknes, Sefrou, Chefchaouen) each have their own page. Region tours group the area by theme and include multi-day loops that link several of them with nights away from Fes.
Are these tours private or small-group?
Both. Private is your party alone in your own vehicle. Small-group pairs you with other travellers on the same route and date when there is a match.
When is the best time for the Middle Atlas?
Spring (March to June) and autumn (September to November). Summer is a cool escape from Fes; winter brings snow to Ifrane and slower roads.
How are region tours priced?
Each one is a custom quote for your dates, party size, pace and lodging. Send the details and we reply with a written plan and one figure.
