Bhalil, where families still live in the rock, and walled Sefrou
This half-day tour from Fes leads with Bhalil, a hillside village where some families still live in homes built into caves, and where women hand-make djellaba buttons at their doorways. A local guide can arrange a visit inside, only at a family's invitation. You then continue to the walled old town of Sefrou and return to Fes by lunch.

A half day south of Fes
Our Sefrou day trip is the in-depth visit to Sefrou's medina, mellah and waterfall. This shorter tour leads with Bhalil, the hillside village above Sefrou where some homes are built into caves in the rock and are still lived in today.

How we run it
Bhalil is also known for the women who hand-make the small knotted buttons used on djellabas; you may see them working at doorways. After Bhalil, we continue down to Sefrou for its walled old town and a glass of tea before heading back to Fes.
Private
Private means your party only: one vehicle, one driver, your start time, your stops. Linger at the macaques, skip the shop, add a viewpoint. It suits families, couples, photographers and anyone with a fixed plan.
Small-group
Small-group means we pair you with other travellers on the same route and date when there is a match, which shares the day with a few like-minded people. Ask for it in your quote request and we will tell you honestly whether a group fits your dates.
What we arrange
- Private vehicle and driver from your Fes riad or hotel and back
- Timing built around your pace, the season and site opening hours
- A licensed local guide where one adds real value (on request)
- Lunch stop chosen for the route, from a roadside grill to a riad table
- Bottled water on board and a phone or WhatsApp contact throughout
- Fuel, tolls and parking folded into one written quote
- A local guide in Bhalil who can arrange respectful home visits
Best season
Year-round, being close to Fes. Sefrou's Cherry Festival in June, listed by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage, is a lively time to visit.

SefrouThe honest details
These are homes, not exhibits
Families live in Bhalil's cave houses. A visit inside happens only by invitation, usually arranged through a local guide; photographs of people need their permission.
