The story of Bab Jdid

The gate stood at the southern end of the city near the exit of the Oued Bou Khrareb, the river between the Qarawiyyin and Andalusian quarters. The land behind it was thinly built, so it was not historically a major gate. en.wikipedia.org (source, opens in a new tab)

A 2022 La Vie Éco walk-through reports that after the R'cif river was covered and a road built to R'cif, a new gate of the same name was opened near the old one. It also notes a debate over whether the old gate is the Bab Zaytoun ibn Attiya mentioned in Marinid-era sources. lavieeco.com (source, opens in a new tab)

As of 2022 a large parking project was under way here. It was delayed, among other reasons, by the discovery of an ancient cemetery during construction. en.wikipedia.org (source, opens in a new tab)
