From your riad to your flight at Fes-Saïss

Cars cannot reach most riads, so a departure from the Fes medina starts on foot: a porter collects your bags at the riad and walks them to the nearest gate, where your driver waits. Fes-Saïss airport is 15 km from the city, 20–30 minutes by car. Private, custom-quoted.

Fes-Saïss Airport

The last morning, without the scramble

The hardest part of leaving Fes is the first two hundred metres: suitcases on cobbles and stairs, and lanes that taxis cannot enter. We send a porter with a handcart to your riad door, so you walk out with nothing but your passport.

Your driver is waiting at the gate, has checked your flight, and has worked back from your departure time.

Before you ask us

The questions people ask us most before they plan a trip.

How long does it take from the Fes medina to the airport?
The drive from Fes to Fes-Saïss is 15 km, 20–30 minutes in normal traffic. Add the walk from your riad to the nearest gate with the porter, usually a few minutes but longer from deep in the medina. We agree the pickup time with you the day before, based on your flight.
Can a car pick us up at our riad in the medina?
Usually not. Most of Fes el-Bali is closed to cars, so the car waits at the nearest gate, such as Bab Boujloud, R'cif or Bab Guissa. A porter with a handcart collects your bags at the riad door and walks with you to the car, so nobody drags a suitcase over the cobbles.
How early should we leave for a flight from Fes?
Airlines generally ask you to be at the airport two hours before an international flight and around an hour and a half for domestic ones, but check your ticket. We add the porter walk and the drive, and plan a little extra on market mornings and in bad weather.
Is there Uber or a taxi to Fes airport?
Uber does not operate in Fes. Petits taxis cannot leave the city, so to the airport you need a grand taxi or a pre-booked car, and neither collects bags from inside the medina. A private transfer with a porter solves the bag problem and fixes the time in advance.

Tell us your dates. We'll plan it with you.

  1. Tell us what drew you in. Your dates, who is travelling and what you want to see.
  2. A person reads it. We write a day-by-day plan for your group, private or small-group.
  3. You change anything. Then we confirm the guides, drivers and riads.
