From Fes-Saiss arrivals west to the imperial city of Meknes

Meknes has no commercial airport, so most travellers land at Fes-Saiss and drive west across the Saiss plain, mostly on the motorway. Your private driver waits in arrivals with a name sign and watches your flight. Hotels in the new town get a door drop; for medina guesthouses we confirm the closest drop point before you land.

  • Distance: About 70 to 80 km
  • Drive time: 50 min to 1h
  • Drop-off: Hotel or medina edge

How the arrival runs

Meknes has no commercial airport of its own, so Fes-Saiss is its natural gateway. The run is west across the fertile Saiss plain, on the motorway for most of the way.

Arrival

To your door or the nearest gate

Hotels in the new town take the car to the door; medina guesthouses usually mean a short walk with help for the bags.

Road distances and times are typical ranges for a private car, without stops.

How we run it

Meknes's old city is smaller and easier than Fes's, but many guesthouses still sit in lanes cars cannot reach. As in Fes, we confirm the nearest drop point with your accommodation before you land.

Private

Private is the default for airport transfers: the vehicle and driver are yours alone, waiting for your flight, leaving when you are through the doors. Nobody else's delayed suitcase holds you up.

Small-group

Small-group sharing is possible only when another party is landing on the same flight or within a short window and heading the same way. If you ask, we will tell you honestly whether a shared run is realistic for your date; most of the time it is not, and private is simpler.

What we arrange

  • Driver waiting in arrivals with a name sign, after passport control and baggage reclaim
  • Your flight number watched on the day, so a delay moves the pickup instead of cancelling it
  • A vehicle sized to your party and your luggage, agreed before you fly
  • Child and infant seats fitted on request (tell us ages and weights)
  • Bottled water on board and a phone or WhatsApp contact for the driver
  • Fuel, tolls and parking folded into one written quote

Best season

Year-round. Summer afternoons on the Saiss plain are hot; the car is air-conditioned and water is on board.

The honest details

Medina guesthouses

Parts of the Meknes medina are closed to cars. Send us your accommodation's name and we confirm the closest drop point with them.

Entry formalities come first

Passport control at Moroccan airports can be quick or slow depending on how many flights land together. Check whether your nationality needs a visa before you fly; our visa and entry guide sets out how to check.

Questions, answered

What people ask us most before they book this.

Where will the driver meet me at Fes-Saiss airport?
In the arrivals hall, once you have cleared passport control, collected your bags and passed customs. The driver holds a sign with the name you give us. We send the driver's name and phone or WhatsApp number before you travel, so you can call if you cannot see the sign straight away.
What happens if my flight is delayed or early?
We watch your flight number on the day and plan the pickup around the actual landing time, not the scheduled one. A delay moves your pickup; it does not cancel it. If you miss a connection and land on a different flight altogether, message us the new flight number as soon as you know it.
How much luggage can we bring?
Tell us the number of travellers and bags (including golf bags, surfboards, buggies or wheelchairs) when you ask for a quote. We size the vehicle to the luggage, not just the headcount, so nobody ends up with a suitcase on their lap.
Do you provide child seats?
Yes, on request. Give us each child's age and approximate weight and we fit an appropriate infant seat, child seat or booster before the driver leaves for the airport. Please ask at quote stage rather than on arrival.
Is the transfer private or shared?
Private by default: one party, one vehicle. A shared small-group run only happens when another party is on the same flight or close to it and travelling the same way, and we will only suggest it when it genuinely works.
How much does it cost?
Every transfer is quoted for your party, your luggage, your arrival time and your exact drop-off. Send the details through the quote form and we reply with one written figure that already includes fuel, tolls and the driver's waiting time.
Can we stop at Volubilis on the way?
Volubilis lies north of Meknes, so it is a detour rather than on the direct line. If you land in the morning and want to see it the same day, ask for the Volubilis and Moulay Idriss transfer instead and we plan the timing around the site's opening hours.

Tell us your dates. We'll plan it with you.

  1. Tell us what drew you in. Your dates, who is travelling and what you want to see.
  2. A person reads it. We write a day-by-day plan for your group, private or small-group.
  3. You change anything. Then we confirm the guides, drivers and riads.
