The Sefrou cherry festival

Every June, at cherry harvest, the small town of Sefrou, about 30 km south of Fes, holds a festival on UNESCO's list of intangible heritage. The 2027 dates aren't announced yet. Here's what we know, and how we plan a day around it.

Cherry festival questions

The questions people ask us most before they plan a trip.

When is the Sefrou cherry festival in 2027?
The 2027 dates have not been announced yet. The festival is held in June, at cherry harvest time: the 101st edition ran from 11 to 14 June 2025, and the 102nd was reported to open on 24 June 2026. We will add the 2027 dates when they are published.
Why is the festival on UNESCO's list?
UNESCO added the Cherry festival in Sefrou to its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It recognises a festival that celebrates the harvest and the town's mixed heritage with music, parades and the choosing of a Cherry Queen.
How far is Sefrou from Fes?
About 30 km south of Fes, so an easy day trip by car. We often pair it with the cave houses of Bhalil, a few kilometres away.
Is Sefrou worth visiting outside the festival?
Yes. The walled old town, its former Jewish quarter, the waterfall just outside town and nearby Bhalil make a quiet country day in any season, without the crowds of the Fes medina.
