Overview
A full day to the Roman city of Volubilis, the holy town of Moulay Idriss, and the imperial capital of Meknes — all within an hour or so of Fes.
Three of Morocco's great sites sit just west of Fes, easily seen in a single private day. We drive about an hour to Volubilis, the best-preserved Roman ruins in Morocco and a UNESCO site, where mosaic floors still lie open to the sky beneath the storks' nests.
A short hop away is Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, the whitewashed holy town built around the tomb of the founder of Morocco's first dynasty, dramatically draped over two hills. We finish in Meknes, the 17th-century imperial capital of Moulay Ismail — the monumental Bab Mansour gate, the vast royal granaries and stables of Heri es-Souani, and the mausoleum — before returning to Fes.
