From Tangier arrivals to Fes, with Chefchaouen on the way if you like
A private Tangier airport to Fes transfer takes the motorways or the inland road through Ouezzane, with a rest stop on the way. Your driver meets you in arrivals at Ibn Battouta. Land in the morning and you can detour through the Rif to Chefchaouen for lunch in the blue lanes, which turns the drive into a full day.
- Distance: About 300 to 330 km
- Drive time: 3h30 to 4h30
- Detour: Chefchaouen
Straight-through or via Chefchaouen
Tangier's Ibn Battouta airport, just outside the city, is a sensible arrival for northern Morocco and for travellers combining Spain and Morocco. Fes is a long half-day south, either on the motorways or on the inland road through Ouezzane.

How we run it
Plenty of travellers turn this into a day: land in the morning, detour through the Rif to Chefchaouen for lunch and the blue lanes, and reach Fes in the evening.
Private
Private is the default for airport transfers: the vehicle and driver are yours alone, waiting for your flight, leaving when you are through the doors. Nobody else's delayed suitcase holds you up.
Small-group
Small-group sharing is possible only when another party is landing on the same flight or within a short window and heading the same way. If you ask, we will tell you honestly whether a shared run is realistic for your date; most of the time it is not, and private is simpler.
What we arrange
- Driver waiting in arrivals with a name sign, after passport control and baggage reclaim
- Your flight number watched on the day, so a delay moves the pickup instead of cancelling it
- A vehicle sized to your party and your luggage, agreed before you fly
- Child and infant seats fitted on request (tell us ages and weights)
- Bottled water on board and a phone or WhatsApp contact for the driver
- Fuel, tolls and parking folded into one written quote
- Medina gate and porter arranged with your riad
Best season
Year-round on the direct route. The Chefchaouen detour is loveliest in spring and autumn; in winter, daylight is short for a full detour day.

Distance, about 300 to 330 km.

Train alternative
The high-speed line runs from Tangier south along the Atlantic coast, and conventional trains continue to Fes with a change. It is a real option without heavy luggage; the car wins on door-to-door and on the Chefchaouen detour.
Cars cannot enter the Fes medina
Fes el-Bali is car-free. Vehicles stop at the nearest gate or car park to your riad (Bab Boujloud, Bab Guissa, Bab R'cif, Bab Ftouh and others), and the last stretch is on foot. A porter with a handcart carries the bags through the lanes, and many riads send someone to meet you at the gate. Tell us the riad's name and we work out the right gate with them before you land.
Entry formalities come first
Passport control at Moroccan airports can be quick or slow depending on how many flights land together. Check whether your nationality needs a visa before you fly; our visa and entry guide sets out how to check.
