Overview
A long but rewarding day from Fes to Chefchaouen — about four hours each way through the Rif — with free time to wander the famous blue medina.
Chefchaouen, the blue pearl of the Rif mountains, is one of Morocco's most photographed places — every lane and doorway washed in a hundred shades of blue. From Fes it's roughly a four-hour drive each way, so this is a full and early day, but the medina is small and walkable and you'll have several unhurried hours there.
Your driver handles the mountain roads while you relax; on arrival you're free to explore the lanes, climb to the kasbah, shop for the wool and woven goods the Rif is known for, and stop for lunch and rooftop mint tea over Plaza Uta el-Hammam. A short walk up to the Spanish mosque gives the classic view back over the blue town.
