Good to know

Practical notes

  • Volubilis and Meknes lie west of Fes, both within about an hour — easy to combine in one full touring day.
  • Bring a hat and water for Volubilis: the Roman site is open and exposed with little shade.
  • A guide-driver lets you cover Volubilis, Moulay Idriss and Meknes comfortably in a single day.

Frequently asked

Can you visit Volubilis and Meknes from Fes in a day?

Yes — Volubilis, Moulay Idriss and Meknes all lie within about an hour west of Fes, and the three combine well into one full day. Pair it with a day in the Fes medina for a tight two-day imperial loop.

Is Volubilis worth visiting?

Yes — Volubilis is Morocco's best-preserved Roman site, a UNESCO World Heritage location with mosaics still in place, a basilica and a triumphal arch, set in rolling farmland below the sacred town of Moulay Idriss.
